| I disparaginly refer to this as 'faux francais'. It is just along my street a little and I do adore it. But it is 'For Sale" and one of the selling points is a DA (Development Approval) already granted to raze the current building and replace it with something ... let's be kind ... newer. My heart breaks when this happens. |

This makes me very sad. What a beautiful setting and tiled roof. I think about those who lived here in another time.

This makes me sad. We have lost so many homes in this area... not all of them were spectacular or historical, but the character of the area changes when they are torn down and replaced with ridiculous McMansions...

Oh bummer. Strange how 'new' is becoming a dirty word - but at least I know what I'm going to do when I win the lottery!!
I agree Julie. When I see a bull dozed black it is hard not to think of the history and memory being erased. Sad.
I too would despair at such a "wipeout". A little General Store at Bittern on my peninsula was erased. And just before the tragedy, the best I could do was to take heaps of photos!
Is this a heritage area, maybe you will be lucky. I remember a house in Crows Nest got knocked down (because it wasn't habitable) but an old looking one replaced it. There were lots of people who used to say I love the old house over there and I smiled knowing it was just a year or two old.
But even if you are that lucky those glorious garden plants are unlikely to survive.
It is a sad tale.
But this is a tale that is happening all over. I am about to move to another fairly historic suburb, although nowhere near as dense. However, I already know of a number of very unsympathetic remodellings. But more of that when Sydney Eye transforms at the end of January.
That shouldn't happen, so sad.
