For the first half of the twentieth century, the area in which I live was serviced by a tram, which the authorities, in their wisdom, terminated in 1959. We now have the 389 bus service. This lay by was originally for trams, and contained a set of tracks in each direction, and a shelter shed in the right-hand island. Now it is the stop of the city-bound bus. Trams had trouble getting up the wicked incline and doing a dog-leg all at the same time. |

Wal Carter, the Chief Traffic Manager of the Dept.Road Transport & Tramways at the time, said of the removal of the trams,,"One day they will regret this"....
