So, you think you're an icon. Big deal!

Taken from the pedestrian bridge across the Waringah Expressway, which is really an extension of Ridge Street, North Sydney, this view keeps the ego of both the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge in check.

I will add more info during the day as I stumble upon it.
A large amount of residential and commercial property, half a golf course, and a cemetery were resumed by the government to build this expressway.

Clever commentary on a truly lovely picture.

At the bottom of the hill, Julie, where Alfred Street met the Pacific Highway at the site of the old North Sydney Orpheum cinema, there was once a ‘village’ of terrace houses which, while considered ‘slums’ and eminently knock-downable at the time of the freeway construction, would these days put Paddo or Balmain (and even the odd French neighbourhood) in the shade. In its own way, a tragedy.

That's a rare view of Sydney where the skyline clearly is on a small hillside. Adore the title of the post! Shakes up those who believe that Sydney means Opera House and Harbour Bridge!

Actually this photo reminds me of the troublesome matter of getting into the correct lane so I don't end up going through the tunnel by mistake (given that I am usually going west not east after the bridge). It is always a relief when I have managed it and a huge annoyance when I don't.

Express ways like this are not an attractive addition to our urban world but necessary nonetheless.
(PS. Sadly no holiday house in Daylesford Julie just a willingness to take a Sunday drive to a different destination. Myrtleford will be lovely this time of year)
