Kumquats are a delightfully tart member of the citrus family, tasting a little like the distillation of a Lisbon Lemon and a Seville Orange. I have about 50 fruit left on the bush in a terracotta pot, in a walkway, in my veggie patch. |
The fruit is too small, and the rind too thin, to grate Kumquat zest, so, when making my Kumquat Mamalade, I will rely on the zest of a lemon to enhance the thinly sliced Kumquat peel. |

We have similar thoughts; can't publish mine yet but our minds work somewhat similarly.
This number one picture is wonderful and I miss so much the delicate taste of Arizonian kumquats.
I've seen the fruit before but had no idea it was a kumquat even though I had also seen the jam.
I've heard of those before. So that's what they look like!
Grate post!
It's been such a long time since I've eaten a cumquat Julie, not sure why. Cumquat marmalade sounds pretty darn delish, wonder if you can buy it?
Oh nice! My first acquaintance with kumquats was indeed in NSW, at a retreat house. The brothers asked me to pick several trees of the fruit and then we cooked the kumquats in a huge pot until it became syrupy. It yielded many jars of marmalade.
Thanks for the distant memory, Julie.
Happy Theme Day.
just the job for the theme
good interpretation! terrific photo
i always had my mom buy these for me when i was a kid because i thought they were so cute...don't see them here in my part of virginia though!
I had two kumquat trees in my yard until last summer when I had to have them taken down. They were very close to my house and got too big and also attracted to many raccoons and squirrels!
I can remember picking kumquats off a tree that was in someone's garden but overhanging a fence (and in reach) of the street. Loved them :).
Kumquats aren't a fruit I know much about. But they do photograph well, in a minimalist style.
I don't think I have ever tried kumquat marmalade Julie. I will look out for some to start my weekends off with a zest.
Great conribution to the "Zest" quest! :-)
I love kumquats. I eat them whole and love the taste of sweet and bitter while I chew. Wished I could get them fresh off the tree!
We used to have a Kumquat tree in our backyard when I was growing up but we never ate them!
