Clifton Gardens - the Suburb

Being a harbour beach, the water is still, ie no rolling waves. Sydney Harbour is a drowned valley, with very steep access along its northern shore. Clifton Gardens is a small kerchief of land, tucked in behind Mosman, with roads which slither and jack-knife down to the pleasure-craft bobbing sea. [With apologies to Dylan.] As we negotiated the steep, narrow streets, a magnificent panorama was playing out before us. With each hair-pin bed, there was a park-bench to take in the harbour vistas stretching out to the very heads. It is a catch-yer-breath moment. I must inveigle the chauffeur to stop a few times!
There are a number of walking tracks (oodles of steps), but even though people were RUNNING up, there was no way I could walk down. So, we parked in the carpark adjacent to the beach reserve and paid the $10 fee for 90 minutes stay. As well as rugged, the reserve is quite heavily wooded. On the right in these shots is part of the Headland Park, which is run by the Sydney Harbour Federation Trust.

I seem to remember back in the distant past there was a ferry service. We sometimes went to Clifton Gardens but it was always more convenient to go to Balmoral with the tram and double decker bus service. Sunday School picnics were at Bradley's Head.

It looks like a lovely area Julie. I think I could even inveigle Mrs J to take in the sea air on this shore.

I must confess to being very impressed with the houses in that spot even though the beach is lovely.

Steffe, I would hope that your swimwear is deep in mothballs right now!

Joan, the houses, and their gardens, are MOST impressive. I would not like the maintenance bill, however.
