Ploughing fertile, young minds

To recap: this is known as the Education Department Building, and it occupies an entire city block, being bordered by Bridge Street, Loftus Street, Bent Street, and Young Street. The intersection of Bent with Young was closed off and a plaza created which they named Farrer Place. When I say "Education Department" I mean school education. The bureaucracy for the state education system from preschool up to Year 12 Matriculation.
This magnificent sandstone building was constructed in two sections: the first half fronted Bridge St amd was commenced in 1881. The second half fronted Bent Street and was commenced in 1928 to house the Department of Agriculture, before they were turfed out (sorry) and Education took over the entire block. These are the massive bronze doors onto the south-facing plaza.

As Jim noted yesterday, this plaza is usually teeming with public-servants. There is a coffee cart down one en. But this was taken very early on 2nd January ...

It is certainly more attractive than the Florida Department of Education building we have here. I really do like those doors!

Those doors are attractive and tall. They have some character.

Yes the doors are attractive. The ideas coming from inside are nearly as old as the building if it is anything like our Dept of Education.
