2 Things Challenge - New / Hope

In October 2002, bombs in Bali killed 84 Australians. A disproportionate number of the dead - twenty - hailed from the seaside suburb of Coogee.

With the advent of an American President whose pedigree is like no other, there is hope that the world will be less confrontational. Australia at the end of 2007 signalled that the old responses, the old knee-jerks, were simply inadequate. With the leadership of Rudd and Gillard Australia is even more egalitarian and compassionate.

I stood beneath this memorial, and there is hope in my heart. Hope that with intelligence, with compassion, and with sincerity the new leaders of nations can make a difference to the significance felt by people and the division of resources among us all.

Julie: Welcome to 2 Things Challenge! You've kicked off this year's challenges beautifully. Thank you for your meaningful words and gorgeous photos. Like you, many of us in the U.S. hold high hopes for our incoming administration. We are hoping for humility, wisdom, and peaceful pursuits in the months and years ahead.

While I too hold out hope, it is always fleeting. The nature of politics is corrupt. Let's hope for new year is a better one than 2008.
