Old'n'mucky lane in Glebe

Tooday I am moving house - keep me in your thoughts. I am sure there will be a modicum of cursing and cussing. Together with bruises and ricked backs.

I am moving from the inner-city working class suburb of Waterloo to the even more inner-city working class suburb of Glebe. These images were made last week in the laneways around my new abode: I adore old and rickety and rusty. This move was meant to be!

One of my first jobbies will be to remake this image of the gate latch: I am annoyed with myself as the concept was great. I just over-reached ... drats.

I don't envy you. Moving is one of my least favorite things, but once it's done it feels good.
I like old rusty things too, they make great subjects for the camera.

I really like what you did with the barbed wire.

Sounds great Julie. Smart, artistic people like living in inner-city areas in my experience - for exactly the kind of reasons you mention. Life is more interesting than in the leafy artificial suburbs, eh?

Conceptual theory - the first steps to a masterpiece!

I hope all goes well with the move and we all look forward to the new creativity it releases.

I find moving quite exciting.. a new suburb, a new place!! Packing/unpacking is not fun .. granted.. Glebe is a great spot, hope you will enjoy your new environment.

Best of luck. I hate moving but I'd love to live in Glebe - so much there.

Good luck...methinks you're going to need it; looks like a lot of work!

I hate moving too but these shots tell me it's a place you'll enjoy. As Dusty Lens calls it "rusty crap" - it is lovely and you captured it well. Enjoy your new digs, Julie.

Good luck in your new adventure.

P.S. I mean, BRINGS you good fortune. (A better translation.)

I'm ambiguous about moving. I like it, because it makes me clean and throw out (donate) some old clothes/shoes/... I don't use anymore and I'm excited about the prospect of going shopping for new decorative items. However, I also hate it, because it's preceded by cleaning, packing, organizing, packing, packing...... so far, I found it easiest to move from/to another continent. The packing is minimal! :)

I love the details in the photos. Though, I can't figure out what is that thing in the first photo...

My thoughts are with you, I wish you a transition as smooth as possible.

Sounds like a move that will suit you. I'm with Eamon.

Good luck, Julie

I'm with Eamon, too. Already we can sense your creative juices stirring as you anticipate settling into a new sense of 'Julie place'. I'm hoping, by the time I write this, you have completed the physical chore of getting all things Julie from point B to point A. Now comes the nesting part. With your eye you will find such interesting ways to see and compose your new nest. Can't wait to follow you wherever lens and eye take you. These three photos today...beautiful!

Well I like it anyway! Sounds like you will be happy in your new home once the move is over. I helped my daughter and her family move to a new house last weekend and it is exhausting!

There is so much to see in these photos - the cracks, the rust, the discoloration, the tiny rocks and the cobweb on the latch. Great series!

Hope you didn't get too many bruises or throw out your back. Once the moving part is over, I'm sure you will be blissfully happy in your new home. I know what you mean by "meant to be". I keep running back to Valdese to take pictures because, if I'm honest with myself, I would love to move there - it feels like home.

Lucky you, moving to Glebe.

I decided when the big lottos were on, I would buy a place in Glebe not far from the light rail.

My idea of great inner city living.

Thank you for these comments. Expect to see more urban decay shots now that I have walked a little around my new abode. Such a mixture of old and delapidated/restored and new and gorgeous. Seeing the city from this side is inspiring ...
