Dangar Island lies in the throat of the Hawkesbury River, about 50kms north of Sydney.
I took an Intercity train from Central to the Hawkesbury River station at Brooklyn. There I caught the ferry that services the settlements along the Hawkesbury. On the island there is a solar powered buggy to assist elderly residents from the wharf up the hill. Other transport is by dinghy, bicycle or wheel-barrow.
I heartily recommend Kate Grenvilles's 'The Secret River'(2005) and 'Searching for the Secret River'(2006) Text Publishing, Melbourne.

That top photo is absolutely unique. (Thank you for reminding me about the book; It's on my list.)
Incredibly gorgeous!
So very peaceful and beautiful.
so wonderful...very wonderful!
It is a beautiful area, that's where they shot the Australian movie 'Oyster Farmer'.
Sounds like a great day trip.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Top photo is just beautiful.
Such a beautiful place to visit.
It's hardly necessary to go overseas really, a lot of good stuff is right here if you look for it.
Fabulous photos - that top one is a real jewel!
Wonderful shots again.
What a great part of the world have you seen the film 'The oyster farmer'? great for its scenery alone. (plus Kerry Armstrong and good old Jack Thompson). Stunning shot by the way.
I like the second photo ... says something about the gentle lifestyle.
I agree the top photo is beautiful. being from Melb i have seen much of the Hawkesbury but what I have seen it looks an amazing river.
Your detail shots blow the rest of us out of the water my dear.
