The WinterFest Medieval Festival in Parramatta Park this weekend past, saw history come alive! Until attending this sort of festival over the last two seasons, I did not realise that so many people were into historic recreations. The field was alive with participants and onlookers, dressed to the hilt in the costume of the period.
M'Lords and Ladies, let us commence with the joust, where our valiant knights on their trusty steeds vie for the favour of the fair ladies. If you look carefully, you will realise that one of the horse-riders is a knightette!
I am in Ballina on the North Coast for the next few days. Tomorrow: Birds of Prey!

These are great!
This looks so fun!!
Gorgeous photographs.
Beautiful pictures! I especially like the horse close-up.
A woman in a joust that would have definitely been frown upon in medieval times and the woman in question thrown in the dungeon :-).
Nice. Won't get mine up till next week. As always, fairly different to what I have, except for No2 which is almost identical to one of mine. Love the close up of the horse. Everything was moving too quickly for me to get anything like that.
That must be fun to watch.
Just enlarged No 3. I like the movement you have. I realised I set my shutter speed too high. I have some good shots of the moments I wanted but they are totally static. Would have been better with a little bit of movement. Live and learn. Using continuous shooting worked well.
Fantastic photographs Julie. What a great event. Hope there is one in Melbourne. Love the photo of the gauntlet in the grass.
Wonderful shots of the armoury. I've not been to one of these events ... might give IronFest a go one day.
Equipment in mint condition! ;-))
some amazing images here, julie.
Great shots Julie of a sport that obviously requires a lot a dedication and passion for history and detailed recreation. Very interesting.
We have a similar festival here Julie, I've only been the once but it was good fun, bit hard to take as seriously as the participant seemed too. You can tell these costumes have been lovingly tended, so shiny and pristine. beautiful photos.
