Concrete and clay beneath my feet

Some of the inner city suburbs of Sydney are pocket-handkerchief size, no more than a handful of city blocks. Think of East Sydney, Darlinghurst, Wooloomooloo, Kings Cross, Potts Point, Rushcutters Bay, Elizabeth Bay. This auto repair shop is in Bourke St, not far from William St. Hard to tell whether it is East Sydney or Darlinghurst.

It uses the down-stairs half of a terrace for access into the rear yard. My guess is the terrace dates from 1850-1870. If the centre of the city is the Town Hall, this is probably ten minutes distant.

It looks like a tight fit. Love the spanner sign with the phone number on it.

Old Sydney manages to hold out!

Was that once a passageway for horses to reach the stables in the back yard?
You always have something interesting, Julie. And I've just been standing with one big toe touching a wall, to see if I can touch it with my knee. Yep, can do. HOWever, I can't do it with both feet at the same time because my stomach gets in the way. How awful is that?

I love that sign - how clever and unique!

*grin* Kay - BUT did you manage to stay at the same height? No bending at the waist! I thought I had it too, until I realised. I am over there in about an hour so will check out what she means. Do you like the photos of Ally doing her Wii routine?

Like the spanner. If this is my camera, you seem to be getting the DoF sorted out.

Ann - It IS your camera. Not really me sorting out the DoF, the lens does that for me. Whatever I set, is altered when it takes into account the focal length. I am finding that I am rarely taking shots with F-stop more open than about F6.

However, my funds are now through, and I am hoping to invest in a new camera prior to going to Canberra next Tuesday, which will enable me to read the manual all the way down and all the way back.

I walked past this the other day - did not see the spanner. Great.

Intriguing insight into the recesses of the urban world! And the sign is so creative!

Fascinating view into someone's place of business. Not much room to walk around those cars.

With an access that narrow, I'm guessing the shop doesn't service semi-trailers. :)

Love the spanner sign. Very clever.
