There's a track winding back ...

Two views of driving in country Victoria, where I spent six days over the Queen's Birthday long weekend. Firstly, the road from Myrtleford to the highway. Then, driving down the Hume Highway towards Melbourne.

Nice countryside, Julie, and it looks like a nice drive. I'm confused, however, because the cars don't seem to be on the left side of the road. Is this a divided highway, or have Australians started driving on the righthand side?

PS
I remember when we used to say "the Queen's Birthday" for the long weekend, but it has been changed. For a long while it was "the 24th of May" and now it is just "the May long weekend" and there are generations who don't know about Queen Victoria's birthday.

The top photo looks like a restful country road whereas the second appears to be more like a highway. Hope you had a great time.

Kay, It is the Monday of the second weekend in June and is fixed like that. QE2's birthday is April and KC3's birthday will be November, but I feel sure this holiday memorial will continue to be in June. It is always fairly close to the Trooping of the Colour.

Great, I am going to be singing that all day now!!!

There's a track winding back
to an old-fashioned shack,
Along the road to Gundagai.
Where the gum trees are growin'
and the Murrumbidgee's flowin'
beneath the starry sky.
Oh my mother and daddy are waitin' for me
And the pals of my childhood once more I will see
And no more will I roam 'cos I'm headin' right for home
Along the road to Gundagai.

Kay, it's a freeway so both lanes are travelling in the same direction.

Looks peaceful. Also looks like you had better weather than we did in Sydney.

Yes, we had wonderful weather. About 3C cooler than Sydney, but very little rain.

Now about driving in Australia -- is right right or is left right?

Is it just me or is the light extraordinary in Victorian high country? I always felt a heightened sense of clarity when I was out there.

We are so lucky to have such excellent wide roads and freeways here in Australia hey Julie, but the tree lined country roads are so much more attractive to drive along.

I was thinking of this post on our drive out to Clandulla on the weekend. I like the sections with trees best but the open country is also nice because you can see the rolling farmland.
