Awash with lilac time

Sydney is gorgeous in late Spring: the Jacaranda is full and blousy; the firm heads of the Agapanthus are erect, ready to spurt their beauty; and, the scarlet/crimson of the thorny Bougainvillea lies spent on the sandstone paving.

All is lush and bountiful, when a summer storm sweeps in across the mountains, leaving a bouquet of decay to invade the nostrils.

Looking both ways along Oxford Street, Paddington, beside the 1840 sandstone surrounds of Victoria Barracks, a thriving Defence (Army) establishment.

I made a comment on Peters blog the other day that jacaranda and sandstone are a great combination. I didn't know there was this wonderful stand of them.

Oh glorious jacarandas. What's the name of that town in NSW - Grantham, Gresham, forget now - the whole of the main street is lined with jacarandas. Remmeber driving thru that en route to Cairns - incredible sight. So many plants and trees of Sydney grow in the south of France - the bougainvilleas, the agapanthus as you say - and indeed, jacarandas - but not so many of the latter. I had had one in my garden for 14 years and it has never flowered. No idea why ...there are some in the casino gardens in Monaco tho - glorious but not as big as those you show here. I really shouldn't visit your blog, Julie - makes me homesick for Oz.

Jilly I think the town you are thinking of is Grafton in northern NSW.

Julie these are absolutely beautiful photos of a tree which is synonmous with late spring in NSW. Love them
