|It comes down to respect, really. How can we respect something that we walk all over? That we cover with concrete? With bitumen? With bricks? How can we respect something from which we suck all the nutrients? How can we respect something that we use as a dump to hide our excesses?|
|We live in apartment buildings, high in the sky, and rarely set foot on terra-firma. There is only one earth, and it has a fragile coating of earth, of soil. If we have any chance of bequeathing our children and our grandchildren, a planet with 'food bowl' capabilities, we need to start planting, to start nurturing, to start contouring, to start composting, to start fighting the build-up of saline.|
We need to start respecting.
