Paddo Pubs - The Unicorn

I have 17 pubs in my Paddington folder. This is just one of them. Hopefully, I will get to more of them in the fullness of time.

The Unicorn Hotel is on Oxford Street just opposite the western end of Victoria Barracks. It has a great art-deco facade and really rocks all weekend. The front bar is called 'The Fringe Bar', and on Saturday from early until about 4pm hosts an eclectic market of young designers. They have ego and are not cheap, but they have some out-there stuff.

As you can see from the banners, Monday is stand-up comedy night, but with a kink. Actually, the entire establishment is a bit kinky, but extremely popular. Negotiating my way through the crowd that has spilled onto the pavement on a Friday or Saturday night (on my way to the Verona Cinema) is a tad hazardous. Many thanks to the burly bouncers!

It is good that they have kept the art deco architecture.

I don't think I have ever had a drink here but it is a landmark. Classic Art Deco but I also like the P & O style glass window on the corner. Selling designer dresses in the bar... that's a new one for me...suppose they hope the beautiful people will order a cocktail while they are there.
Enjoy your weekend hope you are having as nice spring weather as we are having here.

I love the idea of great dresses at the door. If a beautiful young woman gets a hot date, she doesn't have to rush home to change, just buy her finery there and off to dance the night away.
Had to check out "P&O style" and only found "Nautical Deco" which I could have figured out for myself if I'd thought long enough. It's so easy to look everything up now instead of thinking too hard. LOL

Would that I were young enough to consider going to a comedy show on Monday night. I gather that there are no hotel rooms these days. Perhaps in the past?

I've hung out, more than a few times, at the Fringe Bar. :)

Great deco relic, good to see it is still open, in whatever form.

Art Deco is such an appealing look ... but it's not a Royal.

I looked through Victoria for 'royals' but spotted zilch.

Sounds like a fascinating place to visit Julie.
