| The "Sow & Pigs" is a submerged reef, just inside Sydney Heads. Explosives were used to break it up to make it less dangerous for shipping. These photos were taken from Middle Head facing SE. The cliff of South Head is to the left. The water in the foreground is Sydney Harbour. The water in the background is the Pacific Ocean. The beach is Camp Cove. The bay on the right, with all the vessels is Watsons Bay. The depression in the centre of the photo is the notorious "Gap". |

Crawling 'round the harbour
There was a regularity to his arm movement: over, down, through, push. Keep the flutter kick going. And a random breath every so many strokes goes down a treat, too.
To the victor, the physical accomplishment; to the viewer, the mesmerised meditation upon life. People watching is balm for the soul.
This is a Weekend Reflections contributiom.

Sundee Tele - To sit on or to read
This woman is kickin' back on the sands of Camp Cove, reading The Sun Herald. Although it rained a bit later, and she probably had to nip down to the kiosk to buy The Sunday Telegraph.

Camp Cove redux
Where were we? Ah, yes ... hedonism and hubris. The urban myth goes that Sydney oozes H & H whereas Melbourne is content with elegance and culture. Meh ...
I think I have sorted out what that cute little building is. There are two tidal gauges on Sydney Harbour. This is one of them. The other is on Fort Denison.
According to the Dictionary of Sydney:
The calm water and ease of launching small boats meant that the northern end of Camp Cove was used as a base by the water police after they were relocated from Garden Island in 1840. The foundations of the wharf used by the water police from 1842 now end in a tidal gauge.

Camp Cove
Last week I regailed you with Sydney dressed in her best 'naval industrial frock'. In atonement, today I have dressed the old girl in a blend of hubris and hedonism. And, there is more to come.
Jo from A (Bird's-eye) View of Sydney jolted me into a walk around the South Head Heritage Trail. What better day to embark upon this than a New Year's Day that was fine, with blue skies, and a glorious 25C. A must do walk for all locals and their guests. I walked to Edgecliff Station, then caught the 324 bus to Watson's Bay, all of which took about 45 minutes. I walked for three hours. Excellent toilet facilities. And the kiosk at Camp Cove sells Chocolate Paddle Pops for $2.20.
