Joan, this one WAS a fearsome creature. To me he was as I could sense his power even when relaxing. And they are big ... and I am so little.
Then two teenage boys came and fed him crackers, and he stood head to head with them. If he had unwound himself fully he would have towered over them. He lost all his grandeur at that moment ... eating crackers and being sort-of food teased. Made me sad, so won't show those shots.
Beautiful shots :) Don't think of him as losing his grandeur but more as him showing compassion to lesser species who were currying favour with a master by feeding him ;)

Wonderful photos of a great Australian. Their breeding arrangements are something special and we "superior beings" could do well to take a leaf out of their book. For one thing they don't breed when things get tough. It all just goes on"hold"...
I don't know that Oklahoma has anything to compete with a kangaroo. Our only marsupal is a Possum whose only skill is in flopping over and playing dead. Lets see, we have Armadillos? No, no, we just can't top a kangaroo.

I love these creatures and would love to see them in the wild not just in the zoo.

I have never seen such close up and wonderful photos of a kangaroo paw...the claws are VERY impressive.
