Ding - Dingaling - Ding - Ding - Chink!! The lights are flashing all over my little geek-pinball-table with this one! I am inducted into the annals of Geekgodess!! Hah!!
They have varying names: sub-floor vents, air vents, air bricks. Whichever, I have chosen ones from older buildings - late 19th, early 20th century. Vents in the 21st century are a little more pedestrian.

Nice compilation !
I like your "photographer's eye". You notice small but interesting things. These are great.
Clever, clever. You provide us here with such a fascinating experience through your lens and your compression of language.
An interesting collection!
Excellent collection of vents, Julie.
Nice idea, such details in these pictures, I like particularly stones.
Bye,
Serge
Great grates!
Wonderful photo essay.
A terrific collection. They're all great but I'm fascinated by the first one with the crown.
Sydney - City and Suburbs
Yes you are a geek!! -- what will you think of next. But what an interesting collection ... you saved the best to last.
I just noticed you Sydney events banner collection in the margin ... yet another good idea.
Rats. You've pinched one of my ideas. I have a good one of the LPMA vent (we're Land and Property Management Authority at the moment), though I was going to try it in mono. The Mint Museum has some nice ones as well. Haven't seen the round or square ones before - very unusual.
Interesting collection of vent covers.
Very good Julie, I like them very much. I only hope you don't get picked up for loitering doing all these type photos.
Bruce.
Why exactly can't I rein in my ADD self to remember to do a collage such as this ? It's genius Julie and I love it when you do it. Damn, I just lose it in my O.L.D. fog I guess. How gorgeous these are. I don't think my city has the likes of these........but maybe they do and i've not noticed.

How glorious. So many styles. I love that something as simple as an air vent cane be in an Art Nouveau style. Beautiful and beautifully presented, Julie.
You really have EYES for details!
Pretty. Thanks for sharing.
Plenty of variety in style.Great post!
What an amazing and beautiful array of air vents! You have a great eye for details, Julie. I haven't even noticed if our buildings have such. The crown design in the Supreme Court's vent is gorgeous. I also like what looks to be the art nouveau style of the Mitchell Library's.
What a brilliant idea and what a fantastic photo collection! Great job, Julie!
These are wonderful!
You had a very successful hunt.
I love this collection and you captured the images so well.
Thank you both Dina & Mary Ann, you are from a similar part of our world and visit each other's blogs. Lovely to see you both here in Australia every so often.
Never worry, I see ALL comments, no matter when left and how long after the original post. I certainly appreciate them.
Many thanks.
